Meet Dr. Stacy:

Dr. Stacy Benner is a Maryland based physical therapist and registered yoga teacher (RYT-200).  She strives to combines her passion for yoga and her 35+ years of experience as a PT to offer a gentle yoga practice that is appropriate for all ages and abilities.  She focuses on gently bringing awareness to breath and movement through yoga practices that are appropriate for all levels of experience.  As a teacher, she invites a spirit of openness and non-judgement to each practice.  Dr. Stacy believes yoga is not about the perfect posture you can get your body into but about inviting a deeper connection between the mind and body.  Each class offers stretching and gentle strengthening to awaken all areas of the body, moving into whole body balance.

Dr. Stacy’s teaching is further shaped by her specialized training in adapted yoga through the Kripalu School of Yoga, where she learned choice‑centered approaches for supporting bodies with diverse needs. She has extensive experience offering yoga for seniors, adults with limited mobility, and individuals with developmental disabilities, creating practices that honor each person’s comfort, dignity, and unique movement patterns. Her classes emphasize accessible sequencing, clear options, and supportive pacing so every participant can experience the benefits of yoga in a way that feels safe, empowering, and deeply personal.

Frequently asked questions

No experience in yoga is necessary. Dr. Stacy will offer several options for each pose to accommodate all levels of ability and experience. Every pose has a variation. Every body has a place.

You can expect easy pacing, clear options, and gentle guidance that helps each person find a safe, meaningful way to practice, regardless of their physical abilities.

You’re welcome in class. We adjust, support, and modify so your body can move in ways that feel safe and meaningful.

Adapted yoga is a gentle, accessible style of practice that adjusts every pose, transition, and breath technique so people of all ages, abilities, and mobility levels can participate safely and comfortably. My background as a physical therapist allows me to offer personalized variations — seated, supported, or simplified — along with joint‑friendly movement, clear cues, and the option to rest or modify at any time. With chairs, props, and a welcoming, non‑judgmental atmosphere, adapted yoga meets each student exactly where they are, creating a practice that feels supportive, empowering, and truly inclusive.

I offer gentle, adapted yoga in two welcoming locations in Frederick County, Maryland— Mount Zion UMC on Monday evenings at 7pm and Homewood at Frederick’s Lodge fitness room for select morning sessions. In addition to these regular classes, I also provide yoga practices in any setting that offers a safe, open space, including churches, community rooms, workplaces, retreat venues, and private homes. This flexibility allows individuals and groups to experience supportive, accessible yoga wherever they feel most comfortable.

Students ages 12 and up are warmly welcomed in my gentle yoga classes. This age range ensures that participants can follow instruction, move safely through supported poses, and enjoy the calming, mindful pace of the practice.
